Let me start off by explaining how things were through the eyes of me when I was little. My mom and dad didn't have a million dollars so when they wanted something they saved for it. Then they were finally able to buy it they used cash. I know it is unheard of right? Well as I grew up I watched my parents make more money and purchase some things on a credit card or by financing. So this is how I started my adult life, borrowing money.
When I got married, I felt that we had to "own" a home. By owning a home I mean we needed to borrow money from the bank. So we did. The borrowing continued with cars and student loans. My husband (before we met) thought he would help his family out by co-signing a loan. So we were further in debt than we even knew. I still can't believe we let it get as far as what it was.
We decided to sell our home so we could live closer to family. Luckily we found a home that we could pay cash for (this was truly a blessing). Six months after we moved, my husband lost his job and I was a basket case. I was scared that we would not be able to provide for our family. This is definitely something I was not prepared for (this was the first time the truth jumped out of the closet and scared the daylights out of me). A few months went by and my husband found another job. Then he came to me with some information about something we should consider...Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey. I was on board and we have been working through the baby steps ever since. When we first started, I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel (this is the truth that hurt) but I knew that if I kept being persistent I would eventually be able to see it. I am proud to say that we are DEBT FREE and working baby step three; building our fully funded emergency fund.
Now this brings me to why I am blogging today. While scrolling on facebook, I noticed that Rachel Cruze posted about a launch team for her and her father's new book Smart Money Smart Kids. I decided what the heck, I am going to try to see if I could be picked....after all my family and I had worked hard and wanted to share with many people how powerful our actions can impact our children which will continue down through each generation. I was one of the 157/ 700+ chosen to be a part of this team.
I cannot believe how amazing the stories are in the book, https://www.smartmoneysmartkids.com/?ectid=smsk.aw&gclid=CPT-wob8rr0CFUYV7Aod6WoAZw, and how much we can relate to the stories. Due to the fact that we can relate to the concepts in this book, you too can apply the concepts to your own life to change your life and future generations.
Stay tuned as I will be providing you with reviews as I read the book Smart Money Smart Kids by Rachel Cruze and Dave Ramsey......Until next time....
